Hawaii Vacation Home Spring 2006

We are so excited. We have a vacation home in Kona Hawaii. It is about eight blocks from Marah and in the same cute community. Having sold our little Santa Barbara rental in 2006, we were looking for something in which to invest our profits. We decided to invest near Marah so that when we retired we could spend part of our time near her - and the other part of our time here in Santa Barbara. We feel so lucky. Please enjoy the photos ... and look forward to coming to see us in Kona. The house has two bedrooms (one will be the guest room for family and friends), two bathrooms, and a den. Now that we are retired we will be furnishing our little Kona home in January 2010, since we bought it unfurnished, and then we will be ready for guests.

The front of our house.
The front of our house. As you come up to the front door you can see all the way through the house and out to the ocean from the side yard (on the left) as well as through the house itself.

The front porch.
The front porch leads into the living room, dining room and kitchen (all one big room with vaulted ceilings).

The side yard is low maintenance.
The side yard is low maintenance. Our "Pines I" community has 90 some homes like ours, each one a separate dwelling but with only one side yard. It is kind of like a cross between a condo, planned unit development, and subdivision.

Living Room
The living room is light and airy. You can see the dining area behind the sofa with sliding glass doors that lead to the side yard.

Dining Area
The dining area is behind the kitchen and this image shows the double doors to the master bedroom.

Kitchen
The kitchen has great ocean views out through the lanai.

Master Bedroom
The master bedroom opens onto the lanai with sliding glass doors and a great ocean view.

Lanai
The 30' by 12' covered lanai runs all along the back of the house. It has great ocean views of the city of Kailua (upcoast through some pine trees), straight ahead, and downcoast. Our house is on a hill here so the wild area across from us is at a much lower level. Some day this area may be developed but we will still have a view because of the hill.

We are looking forward to spending several months each year during our retirement here with many hours of reading and gyotaku on this great lanai. We hope many of our family and friends will come and visit.
